WHAT IS DYSCALCULIA?

Dyscalculia is a learning disability that affects how people learn, understand, and remember math. Researchers say that students with dyscalculia perform two grade levels below their peers, score at Level 1 or 2 on state tests, or score in the 25th percentile on norm-referenced tests. These students struggle with numeracy, fluency, and following steps and procedures. Research shows students thrive when they have access to explicit instruction, intervention, and appropriate accommodations.

WHY HAVEN'T I HEARD OF DYSCALCULIA?

Dyscalculia has been mentioned in research since the 1930's, the same as dyslexia. However, interest in developing help for the reading disability surpassed interest in the math learning disability. It's time to change this and increase awareness of dyscalculia!
